Soccer: A Rallying Point in Africa

Soccer is a celebrated and cherished past time in Africa. Even the African Union which was formed by the founding fathers of the African Liberation Movement, people such as Kwame Nkrumah, Jomo Kenyatta and the late Emperor Haile Selassie, thought of a plan of bringing cohesiveness within the divergent African communities emerging from colonialism and its attendant vestiges of linguistic sub cultural divide; saw soccer as a transcendent centripetal impetus in forging closer relationships over the unfortunate legacy of the schismatic differences.

WELCOME TO THE 2017 AFRICAN COMMUNITY SOCCER TOURNAMENT

The goal of the event is to promote African Unity amongst the varied African communities living in Southern California. This event is not only a sporting event, but it’s a cultural celebration and a “Soccerfest”.

It’s main goal is to create a close knit sense of community among Africans in the Diaspora.

The date of the tournament is Saturday, September 2nd, 2017 at the John Ferraro Soccer Complex near Griffith Park.
